Wilkinson Barker Knauer Managing Partner Scott Blake Harris Appointed to U.S. DOE Advisory Committee – January 16, 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Wilkinson Barker Knauer is pleased to announce that Managing Partner Scott Blake Harris has been appointed to a two-year term on the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DoE’s) Appliance Standards and Rulemaking Federal Advisory Committee (ASRAC).

As a member of the ASRAC, Mr. Harris will represent the views of the consumer electronics industry in seeking innovative solutions to meeting the nation’s need for energy efficiency. In this role, he will provide advice and recommendations to DOE regarding the development of standards and test procedures for residential appliances and commercial equipment, the certification and enforcement of standards, the labeling of products, and other issues of DOE concern.

Upon accepting this appointment, Mr. Harris said, “I am very much looking forward to working with my former colleagues at DOE and others in the private sector to improve our energy efficiency standards in ways that will benefit the U.S. economy and all consumers.” Bryan Tramont, Wilkinson’s other Managing Partner, said “Scott’s experience and expertise in energy and regulatory matters will be invaluable to the Department, as it has been to our firm’s clients."

Mr. Harris served as the DOE’s General Counsel from 2009-2011 and began the Department’s first systematic effort to enforce its energy efficiency regulations. In addition, he reformed the Department’s rulemaking process to allow more public access and greater transparency, and streamlined its environmental review process to make it both more efficient and more open to public scrutiny.
