WASHINGTON, D.C. – Wilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP is pleased to announce that, effective today, Derek Teslik is joining the firm as Counsel. Mr. Teslik joins after eight years as an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Cooley LLP (formerly Dow Lohnes), where he developed significant expertise in a broad range of media and telecommunications policy and transactional matters. Among other things, Mr. Teslik assisted clients in completing complex M&A transactions in the broadcast and wireless arenas, negotiated carriage and other operational agreements for broadcast clients, and provided counsel and advocacy on a variety of competition policy issues. He holds a B.A degree (majoring in multimedia communications) from Washington University in St. Louis, where he worked at KWUR(FM) as the Hip-Hop Director, and earned his law degree from the Washington University School of Law, where he served on the Global Studies Law Review.

While in law school, Mr. Teslik twice served as an intern in the Federal Communications Commission’s Media Bureau. Before embarking on his legal career, Mr. Teslik founded a record label that produced and distributed rock albums in vinyl record and compact disc formats, and also worked in motion picture and television production.
