KC Becker Joins Wilkinson Barker Knauer as Partner in Denver Office

DENVER — Wilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP (WBK) is pleased to announce that KC Becker is joining the firm as a Partner in its Denver office. KC joins WBK from the Colorado State Legislature where she served as a State Representative for over seven years — rising to House Majority Leader and then Speaker of the House — only the fourth woman in Colorado State history to serve as Speaker of the House.

During her time in the Colorado State Legislature, KC led landmark legislation to reform Colorado’s oil and gas sector, modernized the state broadband office and funding streams, and worked on the first-of-its-kind legislation regarding Uber’s ability to operate in the state. KC also led a groundbreaking plan to meet carbon reduction goals and created the first Office of Just Transition in the country. The Office of Just Transition’s purpose is to support coal workers, employers, and communities as they plan future closings of coal plants upon which their communities depend.

Prior to her tenure in the Colorado State House, KC served on the Boulder City Council during efforts to municipalize Boulder’s electric utility. Before that, she worked as an attorney-advisor in the Solicitor’s Office at the U.S. Department of the Interior where she focused on environmental and tribal matters.

KC received her J.D. from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis & Clark College, a Master of Science in real estate development and construction management from the University of Denver Sturm School of Business, and a B.A. in government from The College of William and Mary.

“KC established herself as one of the finest legislators in the country with particular expertise in the energy, environment and communications sectors,” said WBK Managing Partner Bryan N. Tramont. “She will bring that expertise to WBK as she works across the legal, regulatory and strategic communications issues our clients face around the nation every day. KC’s leadership at the state and federal levels on these issues maps perfectly to WBK’s clients’ businesses. Her ability to get things done, bring stakeholders together, and drive successful policy outcomes —all while earning the respect and friendship of interested parties — makes her a perfect fit for Team WBK.”

“KC changes the game for us at WBK,” added Ray Gifford, Managing Partner of WBK‘s Denver office. “Administrative law is where public policy happens these days and, with KC, we are ready to address that convergence.”

“I am very excited to return to the practice of law by joining WBK,” said Becker. “WBK brings a wealth of talent and knowledge in the areas of telecommunication and energy — two areas I was fortunate enough to work on while in the Colorado legislature. Both areas of law are highly dynamic and my experience working in federal, state, and local governments will help WBK’s team continue to bring strategic legal advice to growing companies. Additionally, my knowledge of environmental law and policy will be an added complement to the team.”
