DENVER — Wilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP (WBK) is pleased to announce that Greg Sopkin is re-joining the firm as a Partner in the Denver, CO, office. Greg returns to WBK from his role as a Regional Administrator for Region 8 of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). While there, Greg oversaw environmental protection efforts in Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Montana. Under Greg’s leadership, the Region expedited cleanup of Superfund sites, and focused on ozone and VOC attainment, oil and gas operation compliance, national and international watershed quality, and environmental concerns in Native American lands. Greg worked closely with air, water, land, and legal directors at the regional and national levels on various legal issues, enforcement matters, and rulemakings.

At EPA Region 8, Greg oversaw a workforce of 450 attorneys, directors, managers, scientists, and engineers, with an annual budget of $392 million. Greg previously spent seven years as a Partner at WBK, from 2012 to 2019. Greg also served as the Chair of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) from 2003 to 2007. He has over 20 years of experience on energy, environment, and telecommunications matters, including rate cases, transmission lines, smart grid/demand response, resource planning, renewable and conventional generation, 9-1-1, high cost fund, and other state PUC and federal issues.

“Greg is an extraordinary lawyer and friend and we couldn’t be more honored to welcome him back,” said WBK Managing Partner Bryan N. Tramont. “Greg has a long track record as a distinguished energy practitioner and his important public service as Regional Administrator with the EPA adds another component to his impressive track record as an intellectual and policy leader in Colorado and throughout the West. We look forward to building his diverse practice with our team.”
