Former FCC Acting General Counsel Jennifer Tatel Joins Wilkinson Barker Knauer

Wilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP is pleased to announce that Jennifer Tatel has joined the firm as a partner. Ms. Tatel will be focusing on media, privacy, and Internet policy. 

Ms. Tatel comes to WBK after serving as Acting General Counsel of the FCC. Previously, Ms. Tatel served as Deputy General Counsel and Chief of Staff of the FCC’s Office of General Counsel, maintaining primary responsibility for the development of all legal advice related to administrative law—communications, fraud, fiscal, procurement, and Freedom of Information Act law. Ms. Tatel also served as a member of the agency’s cross-Bureau leadership team working to develop strategies to address the application of the Communications Act to new and emerging technologies. In addition, Ms. Tatel served as liaison between the FCC and other government agencies, including the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration.

Before joining the Office of General Counsel, Ms. Tatel served as legal advisor to Commissioner Meredith Attwell Baker. Prior to that, Ms. Tatel served as Chief of the Industry Analysis Division in the Media Bureau. Ms. Tatel spent nine years in private practice at a large national firm after graduating magna cum laude from The George Washington University Law School.

Before entering law school, Ms. Tatel used her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and her Master’s degree in Social Work and worked with the District of Columbia’s Department of Human Services, Child and Family Services Division as a social worker where she conducted home visits and investigations in cases of alleged child abuse and neglect.
