Since Wilkinson Barker Knauer’s inception, a primary focus of the practice has been in assisting our wireless clients (including licensees in the cellular, PCS, Paging, SMR, BRS/EBS, AWS, WCS and LMDS bands) to meet the challenges presented by the ever changing regulatory and business landscape. Recognizing that the FCC’s re-allocation of spectrum is as much a policy issue as a technical issue, the firm maps out policy-based strategies to help clients meet their spectrum needs. Once spectrum is allocated, WBK draws on its expertise to maximize its clients’ ability to secure the new spectrum.
WBK brings added value to its wireless clients through its ability to anticipate major FCC policy initiatives. Over the past decade the FCC has implemented numerous public policy initiatives, such as E911, CALEA, and LNP and other Competition Policy requirements, which require wireless carriers to dedicate significant resources and effort. By peering over the regulatory horizon, the firm provides clients with the ability to provide input into the regulatory process at the earliest stages, when it is most effective. In addition, when the FCC rewrites its processes, as it recently has done with historic tower siting issues, our attorneys can provide clients with unique insight and guidance because of the depth of the Firm’s involvement and expertise with the wireless industry and regulators.
On an on-going basis, Wilkinson Barker provides its clients with legal advice on ‘nuts and bolts’ regulatory matters facing every carrier. Similarly, equipment vendors turn to us for advice on how to efficiently navigate the equipment authorization process.
The firm’s expertise in Corporate and Commercial Transactions is of great value to our wireless clients as they contemplate and execute mergers, acquisitions, and corporate reorganizations. And when other avenues have been exhausted, our Litigation practice stands ready to assist wireless clients before the FCC or Federal courts.
