International and Satellite Communications
Wilkinson Barker represents U.S. and foreign-based telecommunications carriers and satellite companies as they deal with legal and regulatory matters before the U.S. government. Our clients include mobile satellite service licensees, foreign wireless and wireline carriers, earth station licensees and manufacturers. The firm supports the day-to-day operations of its domestic satellite systems operator clients and also provides counsel to foreign companies seeking to gain access to U.S. markets.
For both established satellite operators and recent entrants, the firm offers ongoing counsel and representation before the FCC, the State Department, Congress, and NTIA in matters concerning foreign ownership, spectrum allocations, licensing, policy implications, enforcement matters and other regulatory issues affecting their businesses. The firm also assists service providers in obtaining earth station licenses and authorizations for international transmissions from the FCC.
For manufacturers of satellites and earth stations, the firm monitors and provides reports on regulatory developments that affect clients’ day-to-day or future operations. The firm also represents the end users of satellite facilities in obtaining individual or VSAT system earth station licenses and in negotiating transponder leases and other contracts with satellite service providers.
For international telecommunications carriers, the firm provides counsel regarding U.S. international telecommunications policy and requirements, including international settlements and cable landing licensing.
In addition, Wilkinson Barker also assists such clients with other commercial and transactional matters affecting their interests, including mergers, acquisitions, financings, and other contractual matters, many of which have regulatory implications. |
